Inspiration
We love going on road trips! However, trip planning is made hard because scrolling along the travel path on Google Maps to find hotels, restaurants, or attraction places is time consuming and inconvenience. Imagine planning a 2000km road trip from Toronto to Ottawa, having to sit down and trying to note what might come up along the road all by yourself! Not to menion having to pick and choose based on ranking, customer reviews, etc. That's too much work!
What it does
With "What's in Between?", all these works are made easy for you. All you need to do is to input the starting point and destination! The app not only shows you the shortest driving path, but also allows you to select and display hotels, restaurants, and attractions along the way, along with their descriptions, ratings, and so on.
How we built it
React.js; Google Maps API for Autofill & Map; Rapid API for Places locations
Challenges we ran into
All members of our team did not have any prior experiences with React.js as well as using APIs. We spent a lot of time reading through the documentations and seeking help to finish the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to overcome so many hardships in learning new knowledge, and was able to pull off.
What we learned
We have learned how to use APIs in websites, and definitely trained our React skills.
What's next for Trip Planner
Fixing rendering bugs, as well as adding more features like a List planner allowing users to select locations and plan their trip (then connect to Google Calendar, for example).
