Using the internet is obligatory, but being notified about potential triggers may make research, entertainment, and beyond more accessible to people with mental health conditions, people who are discriminated against, and people with trauma.
What it does
Welcome to Trigger Turtle, a chrome extension that detects language find triggering, and prevents any hurt you may experience by alerting you ahead of time.
How we built it
The extension runs on JS and HTML.
Challenges we ran into
It was difficult to manage three different sections of code (the webpage, the extension UI, and the extension backend). Additionally, JavaScript has a lot of particular coding quirks that caused many bugs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were incredibly proud of our hand drawn turtle & having the number of triggering words displayed as a notification on the extension.
What we learned
Learning new skills isn't so hard when youre working with friends on an interesting project!
What's next for Trigger Turtle
Bug fixes! Many many bug fixes & publishing it on the chrome web store.
