Inspiration
We wanted to play around with technology we were not familiar with, have fun with our team and tie in with the Halloween season.
What it does
Multiplayer Alexa game. Each round a player gets a randomly selected trick or a treat. They get to either accept or decline the challenge, and lose a part of their soul if they decline. The game ends when a player runs out of SOUL SHARDS or when Alexa runs of of challenges from the bag of trick and treats. A threatening text is sent to any user who loses their soul during the game. Users can input their own names and list of trick and treats through a web interface.
How we built it
We built this using
- the Alexa developer console
- nodeJS
- React webpage for user input
- S3 bucket for user list and list of tricks and treats
- Twilio API to send texts to players
- Github
- Trello
- Google docs for our detailed game journey
Challenges we ran into
Lack of initial knowledge of how Alexa skills were built. We spent a large part of the first day mobbing on building first intent in the Alexa console.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A game we actually had fun playing together A finished usable product from technologies we were not familiar with Good organisation
What we learned
How Alex skills work That Twilio API is very easy to use Worked well as a team
What's next for Trick or treat
Better use Twilio to send secret tricks or treats to players and introduce a bluffing element to the game. Improve the web user interface. Publish the skill. Keep our souls intact for Halloween 2019
