Who we Are

We tackled the challenge of helping cancer patients—especially those who are unsure about their next steps after diagnosis—find clear, personalized, and trustworthy information about clinical trials, treatment options, and supportive resources. Our solution, TrialCompass AI, is an interactive platform powered by a large, curated database of cancer research, treatment guidelines, and reputable support resources. We developed the platform using JavaScript (React) for the frontend, Node.js/Express for the backend, and integrated Tailwind CSS for responsive UI design. Data is sourced from public cancer trial registries (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov), cancer resource organizations, and verified medical literature. Our AI components use OpenAI’s API for natural language summarization and patient-friendly explanations.

TrialCompass AI also includes a secure patient account system (with login/registration) that enables users to save their progress, store their completed surveys, and retrieve personalized recommendations later. The platform generates a custom doctor packet containing trial matches, key resource links, and actionable next steps in a professional, easy-to-share format.

Why TrialCompass?

Navigating a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, especially for patients who are uncertain about where to start or which resources are trustworthy. Many patients leave consultations with unanswered questions or are unaware of clinical trial opportunities that could improve their outcomes. Our team’s motivation comes from seeing firsthand the confusion and stress that comes with a new cancer diagnosis—both for patients and their loved ones. We believe TrialCompass AI matters because it bridges the gap between raw medical data and human understanding, empowering patients with accurate, actionable, and personalized guidance.

Looking ahead, we envision TrialCompass AI evolving into a comprehensive cancer care navigator—integrating real-time trial availability, telemedicine connections, and AI-driven follow-up reminders. Our goal is to make the first days and weeks after diagnosis less overwhelming and help patients and caregivers make informed decisions that could improve both quality of life and treatment outcomes.

How it Works

When a user visits TrialCompass AI, they can: Create a secure account to save progress and personalized results. Take a guided survey that asks about their diagnosis, stage, treatment history, location, and personal preferences. Instantly receive customized clinical trial matches, educational resources, and next steps tailored to their situation. Download or print a doctor packet containing trial summaries, eligibility details, and questions to discuss at their next appointment. Access our resource library, which includes support groups, financial aid programs, and reputable cancer information sources. User Story Example: Maria, a 52-year-old recently diagnosed with breast cancer, is unsure if she should consider a clinical trial. She creates an account on TrialCompass AI, completes the survey, and receives a curated list of 5 trials within 50 miles that match her eligibility. She downloads a packet with trial summaries and brings it to her oncologist, who reviews them and discusses possible enrollment. Maria also discovers a local support group and a transportation assistance program—all through the platform.
