Inspiration
We all have been meal prepping for different goals: whether it be weight loss, muscle gain, or any other type of diet. The problem with this was that we felt the recipes were starting to get a bit pricey for very little quantity, so we came up with ShelfChef.
What it does
ShelfChef allows consumers to look through multiple grocers and find the best prices without hassle, allowing meal prepping to be cheaper than ever.
How we built it
ShelfChef was created through an app development software called Replit, which is similar to Squarespace. Replit provides a template for an app, where we can then adjust it according to our needs. We then exported it to SnackExpo.Go, which is a software that showcases and allows us to display our service on other devices.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many roadblocks during our process. For example, we were constricted with the software we could produce our app on, as we only had access to school chromebooks. We had a tough time finding the design that we felt was the right fit for our vision. We also had difficulty deciding on the features, as we had many great ideas, but not a large amount of time to implement them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Firstly, we are proud of having completed most of our vision. Another accomplishment we had was being able to properly retrieve data from grocery databases (shoprite.com, walmart.com, etc.).
What we learned
We learned that we cannot implement everything in such a short period of time. We also learned how to collaborate smoothly, as each team member was assigned a different task to speed up the process of producing our final result.
What's next for ShelfChef
We plan to develop the app further, and potentially publish it.
