This project was inspired by Sigmund Freud's theory of psychoanalysis, focused on the interplay between the Ego and Superego as guiding forces of the human psyche. We envisioned to create a digital roundtable of the mind - a table where users engage in meaningful conversations with AI agents representing different facets of themselves. The motivation came from a desire to blend psychology, philosophy, and modern AI into a tool that fosters self-reflection, healing, and clarity. Through this hackathon journey, we learned not only how to design conversational agents that emulate distinct personalities, but also how to integrate transitions, animations, and a user-friendly interface that evokes a sense of intimacy and privacy.

The project was built using React for the front-end, Firebase for real-time database management, and customized AI agents fine-tuned to embody the voices of the Ego and Superego. We implemented state management, smooth page directing, and a structured flow to guide users from onboarding to deeper dialogue experiences. A key challenge was ensuring the AI voices felt symbolic and meaningful without overwhelming or confusing the user. Another difficulty arose in the AI agents would learn from ongoing conversations to become more tailored to the individual user. This required careful consideration of privacy, data storage, and ethical AI use — balancing personalization with user trust. Additionally, ensuring that the AI maintained its symbolic “Ego” and “Superego” roles while adapting to each user’s style was an ongoing technical and conceptual hurdle.

Reflecting on this journey, we realized the project was not simply about coding an app for hackathon, but about turning an abstract psychological vision into a living, evolving digital companion. Much like Freud’s psychoanalysis uncovered hidden patterns of thought, our development process revealed the deep interplay between technology, empathy, and design needed to build a meaningful space for self-exploration.

Looking forward, our vision expands beyond psychological support. We imagine the triad agents evolving into true working companions — not only helping users navigate their inner worlds, but also supporting them in real-world tasks, brainstorming sessions, and moments of doubt or low motivation. In the future, these AI companions could inspire, organize, and uplift users, bridging the gap between psychological insight and practical everyday support. Just as Freud sought to uncover the hidden layers of the psyche, our project seeks to uncover the hidden potential of AI as both a mirror for the self and a partner for life.
