Trext: an Interactive Text Messaging Tool To Reduce High-Risk Drinking

College students rarely check email or read flyers; to garner engagement schools must use students' preferred means of communication: text messaging. Trext is a tool which has been developed to enable automated, interactive texting conversations. College staff, administrators, and student leaders, can edit decision tree templates, which are sent out over text message. Trext will reduce the bystander effect, provide alternative event announcements and offer guidance during emergent situations. The Trext templates can be adapted to each institution and can be “smart,” creating a more personalized feel. In order to combat high risk drinking, social norms must be altered by harnessing the ubiquity of mobile phones.
