Trending crypto

Inspiration

I've always been curious about cryptocurrencies and wanted a way to get some information about them easily.

What it does

It gathers information about Bitcoin and the top 7 trending cryptocurrencies on CoinGecko within the last 24 hours. It then takes that information and posts to Slack the logo, current value, and link to more information.

How I built it

Using Postman collections, CoinGecko API, and Slack API.

Challenges we ran into

Although I've used Postman before I've never used collections or the collection runner. Using Slack and CoinGecko APIs was brand new to me as well. When using the collection runner I ran into some problems because I hadn't saved changes to my API requests. Once I figured out all I needed to do was save, everything ran much smoother!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud that I've learned how to use Postman to make my life easier with the Collection Runner. I'm also proud that I've learned how to format posts to Slack as well.

What I learned

So much was learned as mentioned above. Everything on this project was new to me. I had only used Postman in it's most basic uses before. Know I know about Pre-request scripts and tests as well as the collection runner. I always thought Postman was useful for testing out API's I had built myself but never truly understood all the ways it could help.

What's next for Trending crypto

I plan on implementing Slack slash commands so that this bot will function when requested in a channel.
