Inspiration
The idea of TreeTrek was sparked by the notion that Google Maps sometimes directs users along mundane routes, missing opportunities to guide them through scenic paths filled with trees and the beauty of nature, enhancing their walking experiences and discovering new destinations.
What it does
TreeTrek is designed to build a community, uniting individuals passionate about nature, tree enthusiasts, and conservationists by sharing findings of trees in an area, allowing others to explore these scenic routes, care for the tree, or discover a new destination.
How we built it
Our app was constructed with the Django framework and SQLite database, utilizing Python, HTML, and JavaScript to execute our code, and we also integrated the Google Maps API.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges we encountered was the varying levels of experience within our group, which, in turn, made the technical learning curve more demanding for certain team members.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We felt a sense of accomplishment as we successfully incorporated many of our desired features into our app and made it operational. We took pride in our idea, recognizing its potential to greatly benefit individuals who enjoy leisurely walks or have an interest in discovering nature in their local area.
What we learned
In the process of creating our app, we learned how to integrate APIs and how to develop a web application using Django.
What's next for TreeTrek
We are actively developing features to enable responses and interactions within our post forum. Additionally, Our plans include integrating Google Maps to provide directions, with the ability to reroute to find paths with more trees.
