For our inspiration, we noticed how nobody was taking into action the problems the environment was facing. So we decided to do something about and make a fun and engaging platform so people all over the world can clean up their area together as a community.

What it does

Meet your companion, who will be there with you as you go on environmental adventures and complete tasks to help the earth. Not only will you have a companion, but you will be rewarded for your good karma. This app is powered through crowdsourcing where users can post environmental issues on the map related to pollution, wildlife, natural resources or in general any environmental problem the area is facing! In the app, you can engage in friendly competition and compete against other people to see who can earn the most points! These points can be converted to cryptocurrency which can be used to buy new companions to embark on the journey with you, buy premium rewards, or gift points to friends! Not only does this app support social wellbeing amongst the community, but it also motivates people to help clean the earth!

How we built it

We built this application using Flutter framework; We also built the AR Companion using Unity. For the backend, we used Firebase. For the UI/UX we used Adobe XD.

Challenges we ran into

We never worked with Unity before, so dealing with Unity was a challenge. Additionally, exporting Unity projects to Android was a challenge. It took a while to figure out how to build to Android without any errors.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the concept of having Augmented Reality to provide a more social experience for helping with environmental causes. Furthermore, we are proud of all the skills we gained throughout the hackathon.

What we learned

We learned how to do make Augmented Reality characters in Unity.

What's next for TreeCompanion

What is next for TreeCompanion is to improve UI/UX and Companion appearance, and implementing a better stable back-end. Furthermore, we wish to work on this even further, and the end goal is to launch it into app stores to give access to Tree Companion to everyone around the Earth.
