Inspiration
Our group member, Bill started his journey in Environmental Science at Fleming College due to his love of sustainabilty. He even managed to find some opportunities in this industry but did not find they allowed him to help the Earth in the way he had always hoped for. His other passion of Computer Science continued to rush through his veins, until he finally decided to attend Trent University for it. He realized that, his best chance to make a difference in the environment is through computer science and that is what led him to where he is today.
His team members are equally impassioned to achieve a more sustainable future. From meeting at school to becoming a team, Lindsay, Bill and Avery are working towards a shared goal of a more carbon neutral planet and a better life for all of us.
What it does
This is a website which allows anyone from anywhere and at anytime contribute to the planet. By the simple click of a button, one can easily plant a tree. Many people want to help our planet, but do not know how or do not have the time. However, thanks to this app, it only takes 5 seconds to help the planet.
People will sign up with email to plant a tree. We would use those emails to make money by sending advertisements to their email.
How we built it
For frontend we used html and css. In terms of backend we used php and javascript. We also utilized an API call for communicating with a tree planting corporation.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges when setting up the API for the Raas (reforestation as a service) API by Digital Humani.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finally figuring out how to set up Raas (reforestation as a service) API by Digital Humani. Completing the project
What we learned
We learned that the initial setup of the server itself was maybe the hardest part. We learned how to work as a team We learned how to use gitHub properly
What's next for Tree Huggers
The Tree Huggers are looking to take advantage of this opportunity to further advance their website with other ideas for sustainability.
