Inspiration

Forrest is the main carbon sink to absorb carbon dioxide. Our team came up with the solution of establishing a centralized protocol to allocate individual organizations to take care of particular forests. The action of polling by the committee will allow a fair regulation and lead to increased efficiency of protecting forests. We came up with the virtual token as it is fairly popular and easily accessible by the public using browser extensions.

What it does

A centralized marketplace showing the virtual coins available for the public to purchase from various organizations that are assigned to protect specific forests. This platform also allows the integration of forest protection organization sponsors and rangers by enabling the log-in and sign-up of these people. The general public is able to purchase the forest tokens by connecting to the virtual wallet extension.

How we built it

We used Figma to have a view of our initial UI design. We then inspected the elements and integrated some styling into the CSS, we used components and react-router dom to do in app navigations.

Challenges we ran into

There was an issue at the start in trying to make the general UI works properly since we started putting components using absolute position and fixed pixel units. Hence, we have to spend some time fixing it in order to properly continue with building the UI.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to pull through building the project although most of us did not really understand the nitty-gritty of the project.

What we learned

We learned how to make a website more efficiently. For one, we learned to adapt the modular component style for the React to better accommodate later maintenance, albeit to a limited extent. We also learned to make the components adapt to different viewing screens.

What's next for Tree

The project certainly needs some polishing on both front-end and the back-end side. Further, we are intending to add further functionalities for separate parties, like the sponsors and the rangers.
