Inspiration
Inspired by a classic game from Parker Brothers called Lost Treasure where you dive around the the game board looking for treasure.
What it does
A daily game puzzle that randomly generates treasure and places it on the map. The user has to dive and use clues to find a treasure that is nearby. The goal is to find as much (or all) treasure before you run out of air.
How we built it
It was built using Typescript and ChatGPT to generate images and some of the text clues.
Challenges we ran into
Trying to keep it simple enough to be a daily puzzle-style game but interactive enough to embrace the original enjoyment of the classic game. Also finding a good balance between making it somewhat challenging but not too hard that it will turn players off.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I like the random board generation. I think it offers a bit of freshness as each time a new board is generated the difficulty will change just a bit.
What we learned
It's hard to find a balance between a great user experience and keeping things clean and simple. I love how the Devvit environment gives you just enough tools to do this with options to expand in the future.
What's next for Treasure Quest
I plan on adding more game elements, like mines (think mine sweeper style), global leader boards, and maybe a multi-player version where you would have to battle a friend to see who can find all the treasure the fastest. Also maybe adding the ability to choose your difficulty to better adapt gameplay for a variety of age/skill levels.
