Inspiration
As women, we did not gain much exposure to different fields of STEM when we were younger. This pushed us to create this app, which gives the next generation of students the opportunity to develop interests in fields that women and minorities don't often enter or even consider an option.
What it does
A mobile app that introduces material in bite-sized content and has a variety of learning styles that keeps kids engaged.
How we built it
We used Figma for our wireframes and XCode/Swift for our backend.
Challenges we ran into
As beginners, we had a difficult time wireframing and creating the front-end design of our application. We also had difficulties integrating the actual battle mechanisms.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of what we accomplished, considering this is our first hackathon and first time working with most of these technologies.
What we learned
We learned about the process of mobile app development and how much really goes into creating a game. We learned the basics of Figma and Swift in order to build our app.
What's next for Treasure Island
We want to work on making Treasure Island accessible and more user-friendly for a wide range of students. We also want to integrate tutorial videos embedded throughout the game that guide students and explain key concepts.
