Inspiration
I own a home treadmill with a terrible console and an even worse stock app. I wanted to control it from my phone and actually keep my workouts.
What it does
Treadmill Pro connects your iPhone to your treadmill over Bluetooth and replaces the console with a clean control surface. Start, stop, change speed and incline from your phone, follow large live readouts for speed, distance, time, pace and calories, run interval programs that shift speed automatically, and sync every session to your history and Apple Health.
How I built it
It is a native Swift and SwiftUI app built around CoreBluetooth. It speaks the FTMS treadmill protocol used by many home machines, with careful reconnection logic because a dropped connection mid run ruins a workout.
Challenges I ran into
Bluetooth on budget treadmills is inconsistent, so the hard part was reliable pairing and reconnection across many machines that all implement the protocol slightly differently.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Pair once and it remembers your machine. The controls are large and responsive, intervals just work, and workouts land in Apple Health so your rings and trends stay accurate.
What I learned
Reliability beats features for a hardware controller. Nothing else matters if the connection drops, so most of the effort went into making it rock solid.
What's next for Treadmill Pro
Support for more machines, structured training plans, and richer post workout analytics.
