Inspiration
Our community discovered there was no universal way to track intermodal shipping containers across the world's global intermodal shipping container supply chain. Shipping containers are visible to the general public all over the world. Many people do not pay any attention to their value for distributing goods through out the entire global economy. In addition, it is extremely difficult for the shippers and the carriers that are responsible for moving these containers to track the location at any given time. With crowdsourcing, our project strives to encourage regular people to interact with these international intermodal shipping containers and be rewarded.
Using optical character recognition (OCR) technology developed over the years, Traxa's mobile Android app was built as a platform to capture intermodal containers, their IDs and their geo location (GPS) as simply as taking a picture with a smart phone. Traxa was formed to provide a community owned global distributed enterprise ledger to enable all participants in the intermodal supply chain to participate in tracking international intermodal shipping containers, while being rewarded for participating.
What it does
The Traxa (http://traxa.io) community is a global DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) for intermodal shipping container tracking using a mobile device to capture "non-art" utility NFTs to store geolocation data on the blockchain. These "non-art" utility NFTs contain geographical and meta data about each intermodal container. Each NFT created and store on the blockchain can be used to track intermodal and shipping containers anywhere around the world. Traxa.io is supported and driven by the same community who works in the world's global supply chain.
How we built it
This current Traxa MVP (Minimum Viable Product) has been built as a proof of concept. For this release, it is being deployed on Android with a backend on a server using python. This MVP releases adds in the Solana integration using Stardust to allow us to gamify the experience for users including rewards, assigning ownership through Solana and accessing their authored NFTs stored on Arweave. We feel the game aspect will facilitate community adoption and crowd sourcing the data to perform the task of capture the IDs and the geolocation of the international intermodal containers.
Challenges we ran into
There have been a number of challenges starting with the backend technology and a mechanism to encourage crowd sourcing. We have a great sponsor that is providing us with the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology to capture the intermodal container IDs. After having the tech, we have found that we needed additional funding to grow the product technically and market the solution to the world to enable tracking the world's international intermodal shipping containers. Last, having a dedicated CTO (Chief Technology Officer) to grow the team and improve the user experience beyond just an initial MVP (Minimum Viable Product).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Launching our first MVP last month and we were awarded funding from Arweave for storing the NFTs of international intermodal shipping containers on the blockweave! This prototype demonstrated that we could (a) capture the container IDs and (b) store them to a blockchain. This Solana Ignition Hackathon is going to demonstration our ability to make it fun for the end user to encourage and reward them to going out into the real-world and capture international intermodal shipping containers.
What we learned
We need to grow our user base with funding and people involved in the project. The key to the project is providing the right incentives for those that are help growing the Traxa DAO and those that use the Traxa app. Ultimately, we need to get to a critical mass for the data side of it.
What's next for Traxa.io International Intermodal Container Ledger
We need to grow the DAO, the Traxa team (marketing and technical) and most importantly - get funding for the project.
