Inspiration
Our inspiration for TraWell comes from a deep love of travel and shared belief in the power of meaningful human connections. We wanted to create a platform that would not only help travelers plan their trips but also facilitate IRL interactions between them, fostering a sense of community and enriching their travel experiences.
What it does
TraWell is a web application designed to help travelers in planning their itineraries based on their preferences, with the assistance of OpenAI, and connect them with like-minded companions based on surveys. The platform utilizes a dataset to match travelers according to various variables, with the goal of fostering meaningful interactions and authentic travel experiences.
How we built it
We developed TraWell, a multi-page web application, using a combination of various technologies, including Python, Taipy, MongoDB, GitHub, OpenAI, and GoDaddy. The frontend of the application was designed to be user-friendly, enabling travelers to easily input their travel preferences, receive itineraries, and connect with potential companions. The backend utilizes a database to store user information and travel details, facilitating efficient matching based on traveler preferences.
Challenges we ran into
Time was definitely a big challenge for us, like it is for every hackathon. But this time, we decided to keep things simple, enjoy the journey, and figure out each of our roles as we went along. Another challenge, which also turned into an opportunity, was getting to grips with all the new tools we had to use and learning how to use them in just two days. When it came to coding, we faced some hurdles with front-end development. With our team consisting of 2 Data Analysts, 1 Data Engineer, and 1 Back-end Developer, it was expected we'd hit some bumps along the way. Thankfully, Taipy came to the rescue and made things smoother as we went on.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of what we've learned from each other. Even though we knew our team's strengths before the hackathon, facing high stress and needing extra attention made us appreciate each team member even more. Today, we can confidently say we're well-prepared for our next challenges and any future hackathons.
What we learned
We've learned a ton during this hackathon! It's pretty amazing how we got to know and become friends with almost every tool we used to build our app, even though we just met them two days ago. We got to try out new tools like Taipy, MongoDB, GoDaddy, and the OpenAI API for the first time. Plus, we used Miro for the first time to map out our app's flow and bring our idea to life with clear goals. It's been a great learning experience!
What's next for TraWell
At TraWell, we're thinking about what's next for our app. One cool idea we're considering is turning TraWell into a place where you can find free places to stay when you travel. Imagine you host someone for a few days, then you get to stay with another host for the same number of days. To kick things off, we'll give every user 5 free stays when we launch this feature. This way, TraWell becomes a cozy spot for everyone, and we all get to share our cultures and experiences in a safe and friendly environment.
