Inspiration
Current navigation gaps include but aren't limited to: indoor navigation remains unsolved, Google Maps stops at the door, complex buildings are mazes and outdated/incorrect information. In terms of indoor spaces, current navigation systems stop at the building entrance which results in many real-world challenges such as complex indoor spaces like hospitals wasting valuable time in navigation, universities and malls struggling with visitor orientation, and emergency responders lacking accurate or real-time indoor mapping.
What it does
Traverse platform provides seamless indoor/outdoor navigation, crowdsourced spatial navigation, a gamified exploration system, and real-time updates. Traverse provides a Scan & Play feature that turns spatial mapping into an engaging game where users can earn rewards while contributing to a global indoor map. This allows for Universal Navigation which seamlessly guides users from streets to specific indoor locations with meter-level accuracy. These living maps also provide real-time updates to ensure maps stay current even when spaces change, ultimately resulting in the world's most comprehensive indoor spatial database for next-gen applications.
How we built it
We coded primarily in TypeScript and utilized tools like React Native.
Challenges we ran into
We found that incorporating the 3D designs into the project was difficult.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We stand out from the crowd as we provide photogrammetry scanning tech, user engagement mode, immediate practical value, and a growing spatial database.
What we learned
We learned a lot about incorporating otherwise different fields such as 3D modeling and front end together.
What's next for Traverse
We hope to continue providing incentives for users to routinely scan scenes to develop spatial computing models. By providing a platform that encourages users to passively collect this data, we hope we can provide the data desperately needed for the next wave of AI
