Inspiration

My family has a deep love for travel and exploration, constantly embarking on new adventures and creating unforgettable moments. However, despite our rich experiences, we've always struggled with documenting our journeys. The joy of visiting new places often contrasts with the challenge of effectively journaling or sharing those cherished memories. This personal pain point inspired me to create an app that transforms how we capture and share our travel stories, making every journey a lasting legacy on remember.holiday.

What it does

remember.holiday is designed to be your comprehensive digital travel companion, offering a suite of intuitive features to help you immortalize your adventures:

Digital Postcards with AI Flair: Quickly create stunning digital postcards from your travels. Each postcard is enhanced with unique, AI-generated stamps, adding a personalized and creative touch. These can be easily saved to your profile and shared effortlessly with friends and family across various platforms.

AI-Enhanced Journals: Dive deeper into your experiences with our journaling feature. Craft detailed journal entries, enriched by AI writing tools that provide suggestions and help refine your narratives, ensuring your memories are vividly expressed.

Customizable Photo Walls: Showcase your most treasured travel photos on a dynamic and fully customizable photo wall. Arrange your favorite images, personalize the layout, and then save your masterpiece as a shareable image, perfect for social media or personal keepsakes.

Interactive Timeline View: All your travel memories—postcards, journal entries, and photo albums—are seamlessly integrated into an easy-to-scroll and visualize timeline. This provides a chronological overview of your adventures, allowing you to relive your journeys with ease.

How we built it

I leveraged the power of Bolt.news AI code generation to bring remember.holiday to life. Starting with a comprehensive initial prompt outlining all my ideas, I iteratively built the app, often on the go. Remarkably, a significant portion of the development was completed while waiting at the barbershop, demonstrating the efficiency and accessibility of AI-powered development tools, even with just a phone. The application is deployed on Netlify for seamless hosting, and Supabase provides robust backend storage for all user data.

Challenges we ran into

While I initially aimed to build the app using Next.js, a framework I'm highly familiar with, I encountered a few challenges. However, with the consistent support of Bolt.news's code generations and detailed explanations, I successfully implemented all the desired functionality and features within an alternative framework. This experience highlighted the adaptability and problem-solving capabilities afforded by AI development tools.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

My greatest accomplishment with remember.holiday is developing a fully functional application in practically one day. While I could have dedicated more time, I deliberately challenged myself to see what was achievable within a tight timeframe. I am incredibly proud of the comprehensive features and polished experience delivered in such a short period. (Also doing this so my gran can journal on her cruise holidays has been so rewarding to see)

What we learned

This project was a valuable learning experience. I gained hands-on experience with Netlify, a new deployment platform for me, and successfully set up and managed the project's hosting. I also refined my techniques for effectively prompting AI coding tools, understanding the importance of providing detailed Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) and being highly specific about visual elements to achieve desired outcomes.

What's next for TravelMemories

Looking ahead, the next significant step for remember.holiday is to develop a mobile version using React Native. I envision the app being primarily used on mobile devices while users are actively traveling, making a dedicated mobile experience crucial for its future success and widespread adoption.
