Inspiration
We took inspiration by noticing a significant amount of Reddit posts asking for attractions to visit in a travel destination. We wanted to rise up to the occasion by creating a bot that will provide links that will possibly make planning a trip easier.
What it does
This bot will reply to Reddit posts and comments with top online searches for travel guides about destinations that users might be interested to visit. As of now, its development is still in progress, and it is only limited to providing travel guides for the 100 most populated American cities.
How we built it
We used various python tools and libraries suggested by online resources to get started, but later incorporated our own knowledge of python and its functionalities.
Challenges we ran into, Accomplishments that we're proud of, and What we learned.
We were not aware of how to make Google searches in python, how to create a Reddit bot that can get information and reply to text from post titles, post text and post comments. However, using the internet, we have gained skills that now allowed us to overcome these challenges. This is our first time creating a bot of any kind, so we were very proud to create a program that automatically interacts with another website.
What's next for TravelGuideBot
We hope to create a database that is inclusive of more cities and tourist destinations in the United States as well as in the rest of the world, so it can cater better to the larger interests of the community we believe can benefit from our bot’s functionality. We also hope to add on to our bot’s code to make sure it works smoothly, such as picking comments/posts to reply to accurately and doing that correctly.
