Gabby Beckford's challenge resonated deeply with us: ambitious women often get stuck between dreaming and doing. They know what they want to travel solo, negotiate better salaries, live bold lives but inspiration doesn't always translate to action.

We wanted to build something that makes taking action feel fun, achievable, and celebratory. Not another productivity app that feels like work, but a gamified journey companion that turns big dreams into daily wins with confetti, penguins, and passport stamps.

What it does

TravelDream is a gamified dream-tracking app that helps ambitious women go from bucket lists to boarding passes. Here's how:

🗺️ Route Creation with Apple Maps Plan dream trips by adding stops on an interactive map. Whether it's a European backpacking adventure or a Japan cherry blossom trail, users can visualize their journey.

🎯 Micro-Action Challenges Daily and weekly challenges like "Weekend Wanderer" (complete 2 journeys), "Country Collector" (visit 10 countries), or "First Solo Dinner" keep users moving toward their goals with small, achievable steps.

🏆 Gamified Progress & XP System Every completed route earns XP, levels, and unlockable achievements. Users can track their journey progress with beautiful visual indicators.

🎊 Celebration Confetti When users mark a route as "Done," they get a full-screen confetti celebration with their cute penguin mascot jumping for joy. Motivational quotes like "Main character energy: unlocked" make every win feel special.

📖 Digital Passport A beautiful passport UI with travel stamps, achievement badges (60+ unique ones like "Courage in Cute Shoes" 👠 and "Tiny Detour, Big Story" 🛤️), and journal entries.

🐧 AI Penguin Adventure Users can see AI-generated images of their penguin mascot visiting their dream destinations using Fal.AI integration.

🌍 Global Community & Leaderboards Share routes with other travelers, discover popular destinations, compete on distance/countries leaderboards, and visualize a heatmap of where the community has traveled.

How we built it

SwiftUI for a native, premium iOS experience with smooth animations and haptic feedback Apple MapKit for interactive route creation with polylines and pins RevenueCat for subscription management (free users get 3 routes, Pro unlocks unlimited) Fal.AI for AI image generation (penguin adventures) Lottie animations for delightful penguin mascot states (curious, sleeping, jumping) TipKit for contextual onboarding tips Custom confetti particle system with themed colors and shapes

Challenges we ran into

MapKit Route Visualization Getting polylines to render correctly across international routes required custom coordinate region calculation. Making gamification feel genuine We spent significant time crafting 60+ achievement badges that feel motivating rather than patronizing. Achievements like "Shy but I Asked Anyway" or "Anxiety: Managed" acknowledge real struggles women face. Balancing free vs premium Finding the right limit (3 routes) that lets users experience the magic while providing clear upgrade value. AI Image Generation Integrating Fal.AI for the penguin adventure feature while handling loading states gracefully.
