Inspiration
We were inspired by the need for a better way to plan day trips. There are a lot of great places to see, but it can be tough to figure out the best route to take to see them all. With TravelMaps, we wanted to make it easy to plan a great trip, without all the hassle.
What it does
TravelMaps is a route planner that makes it easy to plan amazing day trips. Simply select your destination, and the app will generate a sorted list of the best places to visit, based on distance and rating. Then, just pick the places you want to see, and the app will create a custom route for you. It's that easy!
How we built it
We built TravelMaps using the Google Maps API. We also used the Google Places API to power our place recommendations.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge we ran into was getting the Places recommendations to work just right. We had to experiment with a few different algorithms before we found one that worked well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of how easy TravelMaps is to use. We wanted to make a route planner that anyone could use, and we think we've succeeded.
What we learned
We learned a lot about working with the Google Maps API. We also learned about some of the challenges of route planning.
What's next for TravelMaps
In the future, we'd like to add more features to TravelMaps, such as the ability to save and share your custom routes in real-time.
