The Process Overview

We started the project by brainstorming ideas on what kind of project we’re going to attempt to create. Once we decided to focus on a Travel app, we began researching who our target audience will be. After having identified our target audience, we started to conduct user research and analyzed the pain points for our target users. We used google forms to create a survey and reached out to peers and coworkers and asked for support with distributing the survey. We then started creating affinity maps to be able to clearly see our personas. To make the design process seamless, we created user journey maps to better focus on what the app will entail. We created a mood board for inspiration and a style guide as guidelines for what we would like our project to look like. We then began to work on our sketches, low fidelity wireframes, high fidelity wireframes and finally the prototype. Due to time constraints, we were unable to conduct usability testing but after going through the prototype ourselves multiple times, we were able to catch any misdirections and completed this project with a working prototype!

Target Audience

Anyone who is trying to plan a trip and view other itineraries for inspiration.

What It Does

Gives users options and popular attractions to visit while traveling. We also included a way for traveling groups to distribute expenses as needed.

Accomplishments

Coming together to design a working prototype for the majority of the app in a short amount of time has been by far the most rewarding experience. We were able to use slack to communicate throughout the project and constantly question the “why” behind every design decision we’ve made in order to keep the user in mind throughout the design process.

Challenges

The biggest challenge we’ve run into was having to work together from different time zones. We overcame this challenge by adjusting our schedules slightly in order to overlap our working time. We also tried to distribute the work so that we can work on opposite schedules and have a steady flow of work being done.

What We Learned

We had to quickly learn how to work collaboratively in such a short timeframe. Constant communication was necessary since the deadline for this project was 48 hours. We also learned how to incorporate all our ideas for it to be a cohesive app throughout. Not one designer’s ideas are shown more than the others.
