Inspiration

Traveling solo my friend found herself wanting to meet up with people to get to know their favorite spots and culture, watch a game or grab a beer. This got me thinking about AirBnb super hosts and how many places have cool people that would be open to showing someone new around their cities favorite spots and meeting new people. They could be the super city host.

What it does

Travel Tag is your ultimate companion for authentic travel experiences! Whether you're a Traveler seeking to discover hidden gems, or a Local eager to share your city’s best-kept secrets, Travel Tag bridges the gap between explorers and locals.

Travel and connect by posting meet up messages. Message Posts are ephemeral and are only active for a selected period of time. Locals or other Travelers can Tag your Post to show interest in meeting up. Only if the Tag is accepted will both Users contact info be revealed.

Meeting up in real time and in real life from an app is what Travel Tag is all about.

How we built it

Using React Expo, Firebase, and RevenueCat

Challenges we ran into

I was missing some basic examples for getting a response from Revenue Cat paywall subscribe. The coupon integration was confusing, I wish it was more like the Stripe pricing table coupons.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Subscriptions and In-App purchases got me to rethink payment flows and app functionality making Travel Tag a better app. Firebase RevenueCat integration worked great for keeping track of User's subscriptions and automatically turning on/off features.

What we learned

Subscription and IAP are better when implemented sooner. I was going to wait to add payment options but it really got me thinking about what value I'm giving the Users. The app review process took a while.

What's next for Travel Tag

  • RevenueCat Experiments with free option for locals or credits per review.
  • Tag rewards for locals, free posts or subscriptions for positive reviews from travelers
  • Add a Local pay option to connect with Travelers, which I think should be less than the current Traveler option.
  • Add Local DM option and show Local's location and availability on the app.
  • Add more profile options and be able to filter on these when looking for connections.
  • Add social connections for a the User Posting or Tagging to see what friends they have in common before accepting a Tagged connection.
  • Add Spotify to show recently listened to music on users profile.
  • Gamification of Tagging and connecting with Local referrals.
