Travel Saarthi

Inspiration

The inspiration came from our travels across the state and the joy of storytelling that comes with every fort, forest, and folk song. We noticed: Most tourism websites were outdated or not mobile-friendly. There was no central place where all cultural, travel, and logistics data came together beautifully. Digital Bharat needs more region-focused tools for domestic tourism. Thus, Travel Saarthi was born: a platform that is informative, aesthetic, and built with Bharat in mind.

What it does

Travel Saarthi is a comprehensive, bilingual travel companion for exploring the diverse destinations of Madhya Pradesh. Here's what it offers: 🗺️ Destination Explorer Browse 25+ handpicked tourist locations—from spiritual cities like Ujjain and Chitrakoot to wildlife hotspots like Kanha and Bandhavgarh. 🌐 Language Toggle (English | हिंदी) Easily switch between English and Hindi, making it accessible for both local and international travelers. 🖼️ Interactive Cards with Flip Effect View summaries of each location on the front and reveal detailed descriptions on the back with a single click. 📍 Integrated Google Maps Previews Instantly locate any destination using embedded, interactive Google Maps frames. 📸 Photo Gallery Explore visual highlights of each place through clickable image galleries that open in full-screen view. 🚌 Travel & Transport Suggestions Includes links to railway and flight booking platforms, route suggestions, and nearby landmarks. 🏞️ Local Food & Handicraft Highlights Learn about what to eat and what to shop for in each town—supporting cultural immersion and local artisans. 📱 Mobile-First Design Optimized for fast performance and smooth interaction across devices, even with limited internet.

How we built it

Tailwind CSS for fast and clean design. Vanilla JavaScript for dynamic elements (e.g., language toggling, interactive cards). HTML5 for structure and SEO compatibility. Markdown-based CMS (optional in future phases) for content management scalability. Google Maps Embed API for location previews. Lightweight animations and flip cards for visual engagement.

Challenges we ran into

Collecting authentic information and verifying historical data. - Designing image-heavy components while ensuring fast load time. - Making it fully responsive across all devices. - Balancing aesthetics with readability for both young travelers and elderly pilgrims. - Handling Hindi fonts and encoding cleanly across browsers.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

✅ Built a fully responsive tourism platform that works seamlessly across devices—phones, tablets, and desktops—making it accessible for travelers everywhere. 🌐 Implemented bilingual (English-Hindi) support, allowing users from different linguistic backgrounds to explore content in their preferred language. 🧭 Mapped 25+ tourist destinations across Madhya Pradesh, each with hand-written descriptions, historical context, local specialties, and travel information. 🎨 Designed interactive flip cards and animation effects that keep the interface both engaging and educational. 🧵 Unified local culture, history, geography, and travel into one digital experience, something that traditional guides often fail to do. ⚡ Achieved fast load times and lightweight performance even with high-resolution images and dynamic content. 🧠 Created a scalable foundation for future integration of APIs, real-time data, and itinerary planning tools.

What we learned

How to make bilingual interfaces switch seamlessly without reloads. How to organize large datasets of destinations, images, descriptions, and travel options. Practical UX lessons about mobile-first design and accessibility. The importance of cultural context in content creation.

What's next for Travel Saarthi

Add itinerary builder based on selected destinations. - Integrate local transport APIs and stay options. - Add real-time weather and festival alerts. - Enable offline access with service workers & expand its operations to rest of Bharat.
