Inspiration
As three international students new to Irvine, we faced a cultural shift that made navigating the city a challenge. Travel websites played a crucial role in helping us get familiar with the area. This inspired us to create a tool that would simplify trip planning for others, allowing users to create personalized itineraries with ease.
What it does
Travel Planner generates custom itineraries based on the user’s input, including destination, dates, and preferences. It suggests top destinations, provides helpful travel tips, and integrates relevant offers through ads to enhance the experience.
How we built it
We developed the platform using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend. For backend integration, we connected to AI APIs to generate tailored recommendations. As beginners, we focused on learning and applying new technologies as we progressed.
Challenges we ran into
Coming into the hackathon with little coding experience, we struggled to get started. Connecting AI APIs to our program proved to be a major hurdle, and figuring out where to begin was challenging. However, with each small victory, we built momentum and gained confidence.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud that we managed to create a functional travel planner, despite having minimal experience in coding. Getting the AI integrated into our platform and seeing our hard work result in a working application was a huge win for us.
What we learned
We learned how to navigate the development process from scratch, from setting up our project to using APIs and AI tools. We gained invaluable experience in coding, problem-solving, and collaboration, all within the intense timeframe of the hackathon.
What's next for Travel Planner
We plan to enhance Travel Planner by integrating more advanced AI models, improving UI/UX design, and adding features like real-time data for weather, transport, and events. We also aim to expand the platform’s reach to help more people explore cities around the world.
