🧠 Inspiration

As avid travellers, we've always wanted a place to store all the memories we made and log our travel experiences into a simple online interface. A web app dedicated just for travelling, and why not make it fun? 🌈

💻 What it does

  • Log : Enter all the specific memories you want to keep in Chroma World. Ranging from the most memorable restaurant you ate in, to the best souvenir you bought!
  • Laugh : The super fun and colourful interface with different countries in different colours will excite anyone to travel more!
  • Look : Drown yourself in memories of travelling, and look back at your achievements - how many countries did you travel to in 2021?

🔨 How we built it

  • HTML and CSS for the UI.
  • JavaScript React for most of the backend.
  • Miro for brainstorming and planning most of the website.
  • Heroku for deploying and hosting the web app.

🏃🏻 Challenges we ran into

  • Integrating the frontend and backend via branches on Git.
  • Errors regarding instalments of npm to run the React site.
  • Hosting and deploying the website (lots of problems!).
  • Storing all the data in local storage, and customising them.
  • Registering the domain chromaworld.us in the GoDaddy Registry website.

📌 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • In a span of a day, we managed to fully equip ourselves with everything we need to know to code in JavaScript React, from zero knowledge about JavaScript.
  • Made the UI as simple and minimal as possible (yet packed with information!), so that it could act as a ready-to-go travel logger.
  • Creating our own algorithm for customised colours for the confetti explosion and modal background!

📖 What we learned

  • Small-sized team can be fiery! 🔥
  • Managing and pacing ourselves when creating a web app according to our capabilities.
  • Using HTML and CSS to style a webpage.
  • New things about Git/GitHub - pull requests when there are conflicts.
  • Installing npm to run React on localhost.
  • New VSCode extensions that eased our job a lot!
