Inspiration

Our team was wanting to create something like this before the tracks were revealed, and we were pushed into the decision after seeing the Lockton and Theme tracks. While it doesn't follow Lockton judging criteria closely, we were inspired to pursue making our least favorite aspect of travels more enjoyable: Day of weather and itinerary monitoring

What it does

It takes a user input of to addresses and displays a calculated route on an integrated world map, and displays weather conditions along the road.

How we built it

We used Flask to link front-end HTML and Java to back-end Python scripts to accomplish this. Instead of using the provided Lockton travel API we found our own free use APIs online and used leaflet library for rendering. -Geoapify -national weather service

Challenges we ran into

As this is our first hackathon on average, we had zero experience. Truly combining all of our expertise in a manner that was wholly constructive was difficult, as half of us have most of our experience in game design rather than web design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As two first time, and two second time Hackathon participants, we are proud of having a final project to submit, as well as being able to fully implement our minimum viable product. We also wanted to figure this project out purely with online resources such as W3 schools and scouring documentation. Zero AI was used in the course of this project, and while that may seem small-scoped, it was important to help us feel proud of being able to submit anything. This project also served as a last minute challenge to us to learn anything about front end developing and a lot of back end development on the scene. If you view our code/HTML, it also may be interesting to view it through the lens of a group that has never used HTML before, and have rarely collaborated on anything. It was important that we also found a love for our common interest, even though we are interdisciplinary with low overlap experience

What we learned

As far as coding skills are concerned:

-HTML -Flask front end/back end link -API integration into JavaScript

As a team contributing to a project

-How to ask for help from someone with different expertise -How to use Git and Github outside of personal use -General Hackathon etiquette -Expectations FROM OURSELVES for future events

What's next for Travel condition manager

We would like to save multiple travel plans and itineraries, requiring setup of a user database as it is web based.
