Inspiration

As ambitious students who loves exploring new places, I’ve always been frustrated by how time-consuming trip planning can be, jumping between dozens of tabs, comparing flights, checking reviews, and trying to fit everything into a budget. I wanted to create something that makes travel planning effortless, fun, and personal. TravelBuddy AI was born from that idea, a single platform that not only plans your trip instantly but also connects travelers with real local insights and rewards sustainable choices. It’s about blending technology with curiosity, helping people experience the world smarter and more meaningfully.

What it does

TravelBuddy AI is an all-in-one travel assistant built to make trip planning fast, smart, and personal. In just a few seconds, it can generate a full itinerary based on your preferences, mood, and budget — from flights and hotels to daily activities. The app also rewards users with EcoPoints for choosing sustainable options and lets locals share real recommendations through the “Local Contributor” feature, helping travelers discover authentic spots. Our goal is to make planning stress-free while building a global community of travelers helping each other explore smarter.

How we built it

We built it using VS Code, Python, and Open AI.

Challenges we ran into

A lot of the problems we ran into came from debugging and integrating our backend files with our frontend files. This was overcome by troubleshooting, debugging and problem solving together.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of how much we were able to accomplish as a team. We all worked very hard and were successful in creating a working demo prototype that we believe can help a lot of people.

What we learned

We learned about integrating AI into our code, merging backend and frontend and also grew our skills as programmers and developers.

What's next for Travel Buddy AI

We plan on integrating google reviews to further the apps accuracy and personalization by allowing locals to suggest better places for tourist, creating a better overall experience and differentiating it from other apps. Additionally, we plan on allowing users to book directly through the site to gain points that can apply discounts towards their travel experiences.
