Inspiration
Trashtag was inspired by the need to address the growing problem of waste accumulation in natural environments. The platform was created to encourage individuals and companies to take responsibility for their environmental impact and work towards a cleaner planet.
What it does
Trashtag is an app that allows users to take pictures of trash they find in nature, dispose of it in a trashcan, and earn job, the crypto currency of the Trashtag protocol. The waste pictures are validated by other users, and the waste is tokenized as an ERC721 on the blockchain, providing proof of the user's positive impact on the environment. Trashtag Impact, the NFT marketplace, enables FMCG companies to purchase waste collected tokens and prove their CSR commitments while supporting the Trashtag protocol.
How we built it
Trashtag Impact was developed using a combination of Next.js, Ether.js, and Solidity. Next.js is a popular React-based web framework that allowed us to create a performant and scalable front-end for our NFT marketplace. Ether.js is a JavaScript library that provides a simple and intuitive way to interact with the Ethereum blockchain, while Solidity is the programming language used to write smart contracts on the blockchain. By leveraging these technologies, we were able to create a seamless and secure user experience for our marketplace. However, integrating these different technologies and ensuring compatibility was a challenge we had to overcome during the development process.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we faced was developing a sustainable tokenomics system for Trashtag. We had to ensure that the value of the $JOB token increased over time and that there was enough incentive for users to collect waste. Additionally, developing the NFT marketplace on the Fantom blockchain was also a challenge as we had to learn new tools and techniques to integrate the smart contracts.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a unique platform that combines blockchain technology, mobile app development, and corporate social responsibility. We believe that Trashtag has the potential to create a real impact on the environment and change the way individuals and companies think about waste collection.
What we learned
Through developing Trashtag and Trashtag Impact, we learned a lot about blockchain technology and its potential for creating positive change. We also learned the importance of developing sustainable tokenomics and ensuring that there is enough incentive for users to participate in the platform.
What's next for Trashtag impact
In the future, we plan to expand Trashtag to other countries and continue to promote environmental sustainability through waste collection. We also plan to integrate additional features into the app, such as a leaderboard system and rewards for top collectors. Finally, we plan to explore new partnerships and collaborations to further promote our mission of creating a cleaner planet.
