Inspiration

This was inspired by global sustainability efforts combined with Pokemon Go/Niantic games.

What it does

This is a 3d game which implements AR and VPS. A player spawns in a virtual world and collects trash, then throws away that trash in an AR with trash cans around them.

How we built it

We used C#, Unity, AR, and VPS to create this project. It was built on laptops and downloaded on mobile devices.

Challenges we ran into

Implementing animation; downloading and setting up Unity; writing scripts; downloading to mobile; making interesting game ideas

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a functional, smooth AR; creating a functional, smooth virtual world; implementing a trash throw-away system; downloading our game onto devices; implementing character physics

What we learned

We greatly expanded our skillset on Unity, Lightship, C#, and AR. We learned how to create objects and give objects properties; we also discovered how to create our own rules and attributes using C#. We discovered how to convert our game onto mobile devices and be able to create a mesh in AR that registers objects around us.

What's next for TrashGO

TrashGO could be expanded by greatly developing the game further. We could expand the game's graphics, add more features, add levels and challenges, update mechanics, etc. Then, we need to add more to the AR to make the game more interactive and interesting. We can add educational content to further promote sustainability and reduce the habit of littering. We could make it similar to PokemonGO, where people start wandering around their own city and picking up trash for rewards. By getting cities to sponsor us, we could offer rewards for those who pick up real trash, creating an entertaining yet rewarding game for users.
