Inspiration

Every day, we see plastic bottles, tyres, and old clothes being thrown away, adding to pollution. We thought — what if AI could help people see the hidden potential in waste and inspire them to reuse it creatively? That’s how Trash2Treasure AI was born.

What it does

User uploads a photo of a waste item.

AI identifies the item using image recognition.

The system suggests DIY reuse/upcycle ideas with simple steps.

Users get eco-friendly, fun, and practical ways to give waste a second life.

How we built it

We used a Python backend with FastAPI, connected it to an image recognition model, and designed a simple frontend where users can upload photos. We also added a generative AI layer to provide creative DIY suggestions.

Challenges we ran into

Training the model to correctly identify different waste items.

Making the DIY suggestions simple and practical for beginners.

Designing a clean UI with limited time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a working prototype in a short time.

Created a unique blend of AI + sustainability.

Made recycling look fun and accessible for everyone.

What we learned

How to integrate image recognition with generative AI.

The importance of designing with user simplicity in mind.

That small ideas can have big environmental impact.

What's next for Trash2Treasure AI

Expanding the database with more waste categories.

Adding step-by-step visual DIY tutorials.

Creating a mobile app for easy access.

Partnering with eco-clubs and schools to spread awareness.
