Inspiration
When researching online, we found a shocking fact that said "Hundreds of millions of pieces of space trash is flying around earths orbit today". This brought to our attention the danger that space trash poses to satellites that orbit earth.
What it does
It helps show people that space trash is a very prominent problem in earth's orbit and that we need to help reduce the amount of space trash through whatever means possible.
How we built it
We used Unity and C# to create a 2d platformer like game that shows a astronaut going from asteroid to asteroid in order to collect trash floating through space.
Challenges we ran into
There were many ideas that we wished to implement into the video game but we had to discard a lot of them due to the restrictions of our knowledge when it comes to Unity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Were proud of the fact that we managed to learn how to create a working 2d game through Unity in under 10 hours.
What we learned
We learned a lot about Unity in this 12 hour hackathon like its kinks and benefits. We believe that this will be a great learning experience for our group should we ever choose to do video game design.
What's next for Trash Galactic
We have many ideas that we wish to implement like obstacles and enemies which we were just not able to do in this short time period. Hopefully in the future we can publish this game to the internet so that anyone can play!
