Inspiration
Our Inspiration for Trash Dash was our frustration when seeing people attempt to throw trash away and throwing it in the wrong bin. We felt that we had to educate the public on what trash goes into which bin
Game description
The game is centered around collecting various types of trash and depositing it into the correct bins. Each level is timed and the user must deposit all pieces of trash before the time is up. The challenge comes in the fact that to deposit the trash the user must press a button for the corresponding types of trash, this can get confusing. On top of this the trash is launched so it makes it hard to make it into the bins
Instructions
The controls are very simple. You move with arrow keys and jump with space. Z, X, and C are used to shoot recycables, compostables, and waste respectively
How we built it
We built it through Unity, Visual Studio, and Weebly.
Challenges we ran into
Getting the collisions to work correctly, it was very annoying. For the longest time Unity was not registering when the player picked up trash or when trash was thrown into the bin. On top of this getting the character animations to work was also a challenge. Website designs were also a big obstacle.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
No one knew Unity until this hackathon, so not only were we able to learn but we actually made something. We're also glad everybody was able to contribute something to the project.
What we learned
How to make a video game through Unity.
What's next for Trash Dash Game
Additional levels, more difficulties, a score, and more types of trash
