In Alameda County, an increasing number of residents are facing food insecurity due to financial limitations and lack of transportation. First Mile Foods is a mobile farmers’ market that delivers healthy and affordable produce to food deserts in Alameda County.

I researched previous case studies of similar initiatives, performed calculations to determine financial feasibility, and helped develop our process of data analysis and utilization. I also refined the language of our presentation to improve the efficacy of our pitch.

Sydney Holgado
I analyzed data on food insecurity in Alameda County and proposed creating a mobile farmers' market. I defined the problem and key stakeholders. I led the research efforts on competitors, supply chain, and financial feasibility. I also structured the presentation, creating the majority of the slides.

Private user
I identified food deserts in the Bay Area and suggested starting First Mile Foods in Alameda County. I used ArcGIS Pro to create a map of population density and analyzed it to determine the best neighborhood to implement First Mile Foods. Then, I researched this neighborhood in depth to determine two possible locations for our mobile markets. I also incorporated urban planning and community involvement so we can help the neighborhood the best we can. Lastly, I researched Hayward policy, zoning code, and food vendor permits to determine the feasibility of our project.
