Inspiration
$1.75 Trillion in U.S. Student Debt. 1272% inflation in cost of Tuition (2x faster than medical care, and 11x faster than a new car) Record low financial illiteracy among graduating high school classes in the U.S. that contributes to this.
What it does
Clearly and concisely communicates to students their future financial projections based on their current standpoint. Takes into account Loans, Tuition, Savings and living expenses, and returns long-term projected outcomes, and eventually, a rating system as to how secure they are expected to be in the future given their current plan.
How we built it
Using Python for the back-end script, and the brand-new PyScript framework which allows Python to run in an HTML interface, essentially replacing the role of JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
Implementing PyScript in the HTML interface, thusfar.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully creating a working script and an aesthetic website template.
What we learned
Teamwork, stamina and perseverance. And PyScript.
What's next for Transparent - Student Finance
Integrate the script with the website to create a fully-functioning Beta, free online calculator for students to predict their relative future financial standpoint given their current situation.
