Inspiration

The idea for Transly stemmed from the desire to break down communication barriers in an increasingly globalized world. With over 100 plus languages spoken worldwide, effective communication can often feel out of reach. This motivation led to the creation of Transly, a comprehensive language translation app.

What it does

Transly is a powerful language translation app that supports: Translation in 50+ languages for text and voice. Real-time voice translation to enable smooth conversations. Text-from-image translation using advanced MLKIT technology to extract and translate text directly from photos. Transly makes communication effortless, whether you’re speaking, reading, or listening in a foreign language.

How we built it

We developed Transly using a combination of technologies: Machine Learning Models: For accurate language processing and translations. Machine Learning Kit (ML Kit): For extracting text from images. Mobile Frameworks: Built for Android Native Using Kotlin Cloud Services: For real-time processing and language database management.

Challenges we ran into

Language Accuracy: Ensuring translations are contextually accurate across diverse languages. Real-Time Performance: Optimizing response times for voice and text translations. ML Kit Precision: Improving text recognition in low-light or complex image conditions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully integrating 50+ languages with high accuracy. Launching a user-friendly interface that caters to both novice and tech-savvy users. Achieving seamless real-time voice translation for uninterrupted communication. Developing a robust text-from-image feature that handles various fonts and layouts.

What we learned

The importance of user feedback in refining app features and usability. Advanced techniques for improving language processing and ML Kit accuracy. Effective ways to balance performance optimization with a smooth user experience.

What's next for Transly

Language Expansion: Adding support for more languages and dialects. Offline Mode: Enabling translations without an internet connection. Cultural Context: Introducing features that provide cultural nuances for translations. Integration with Wearables: Bringing real-time translation to smartwatches and AR devices. Accessibility Enhancements: Improving usability for people with disabilities.
