Inspiration
We were looking at the ideas presented in the server and at the available tools. We thought it would be cool to make a Discord bot because we had so much fun with the Vandyhacks one.
What it does
It translates messages and text between 9 major languages through various commands and mechanics.
How we built it
We used IntelliJ and Java to work together and code the bot. We had to create a Discord bot through Discord Developers Portal, register for the Google Cloud Translation API access, and connect both to the code.
Challenges we ran into
Because we are all freshmen and had limited coding language, a lot of it was learning how the code we were using worked. More importantly, this project was our first time importing from external sources or using an API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-Connecting the bot and bringing it online for the first time -Having the bot reply to our command -Successfully connecting the Google Translation API -Successfully connecting it a SECOND time to use the advanced commands -Reactions on the messages working
What we learned
-How to use Maven to help us code -Better at Java -Learned how APIs and plugins work
What's next for Translation Bot for Discord
-Adding more languages -Creating a possibility to live translate messages
