Inspiration
We were inspired by the stories of our friends who come from other countries and struggle with schoolwork in a language they are not native in. We decided we wanted to create a tool for them to be able to study and learn in their own language.
What it does
Transl8 takes research papers, notes, articles, or any sort of informational media (in the form of PDFs or images) and lets users translate the content into their select language.
How we built it
We build it using React, Express, and MongoDB. We use Gemini API for the actual translation.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was connecting the frontend to the backend. Since we were on a time crunch, my team opted to work directly on the main branch instead of on separate feature branches, each of us working on our own pieces. When it came time to connect, it was a challenge in terms of figuring out what little tweaks we all needed to make to fit the pieces correctly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the teamwork we had working together! We communicated well as a team and had a blast!
What we learned
We learned that, in 24 hours, it's gonna be hard to make a life-changing app, but with the right teammates, it's easy to make life-long memories!
What's next for transl8
We're going to continue to add features even after CodeRED!
