What's next for TransitTrail — commute planning on Bee
Inspiration
We noticed that many developers struggle with unpredictable travel times during their daily routines. We wanted to create a solution that uses predictive data to provide a smoother morning experience for those who work on the Bee platform.
What it does
TransitTrail provides smart commute planning by analyzing historical travel data to predict potential delays. It integrates directly with Bee to offer the best departure times, ensuring developers arrive at their destinations reliably.
How we built it
We implemented the backend using Go to ensure high performance and low latency within aws-lambda. We utilized amazon-forecast to process traffic trends and used boto3 to manage all interactions between AWS services and the transittrail logic.
Challenges we ran into
Mapping real-time commute data to the format required by amazon-forecast was initially quite complex. We also struggled to ensure that our Go functions interacted seamlessly with the specific constraints of the Bee surface.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of successfully integrating amazon-forecast into a Go-based workflow. Seeing TransitTrail accurately predict a traffic spike within the Bee environment was a major win for our team.
What we learned
We learned a lot about handling time-series data specifically for urban transit patterns. We also gained deep experience in optimizing Go binaries for serverless execution on the Amazon Bee track infrastructure.
What's next for TransitTrail
We plan to add real-time notification alerts for sudden commute changes. We also want to expand the route routing suggestions based on the forecasts generated by the system.
