Inspiration
We noticed that many people spend their early mornings frantically checking multiple transit apps while getting ready for work. We wanted to bring a seamless, hands-free planning experience to the big screen using Amazon Fire TV. By moving commute planning to the TV, we aim to reduce morning stress through clear-format visualization.
What it does
TransitSense provides a comprehensive commute planning interface on Amazon Fire TV. It aggregates real-time transit updates and uses AI to suggest the best times to leave based on user preferences. The interface is optimized for television viewing, ensuring all travel information is easily readable across the room.
How we built it
We built the backend using Python and deployed it via AWS App Runner for scalable hosting. We utilized Amazon Bedrock to process natural language queries and CrewAI to orchestrate transit data agents. The frontend was specifically developed for Amazon Fire TV to ensure a smooth user interface experience.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled with mapping complex transit data structures into a layout that felt natural on a large television screen. We also faced challenges ensuring the CrewAI agents could respond quickly enough for a real-time feel. Balancing the AI model depth with execution speed required significant prompt tuning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of successfully integrating a multi-agent system with CrewAI to handle complex routing logic. The visual dashboard on Fire TV turned out cleaner than we anticipated, which is a major win. Our deployment on AWS App Runner allowed us to maintain a robust backend with minimal infrastructure overhead.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the nuances of designing for a lean-back interface like Amazon Fire TV compared to mobile devices. We also gained deep experience in using generative AI via Amazon Bedrock to solve practical logistical problems. Understanding how to coordinate multiple agents was a key breakthrough for our architecture.
What's next for TransitSense
We plan to integrate more real-time traffic alerts and weather overlays directly into the commute dashboard. We also want to explore voice-activated planning on Fire TV to make it even more convenient. Expanding support to international transit systems is our next major milestone.
