Inspiration
The idea for Transit Prep came from my own daily routine — I travel 1 to 1.5 hours to college every day. During these long commutes, I realized how much potential that time had if used effectively. Instead of simply scrolling through social media or sitting idle, I wished I could prepare for interviews or learn something useful during the ride. That’s when the thought struck — why not build an app tailored for people like me? An app that makes interview prep easy, hands-free, and perfectly suited for people traveling.
What it does
Transit Prep is a smart, mobile-friendly interview preparation app designed specifically for students and working professionals who commute. It offers:
~Daily bite-sized interview questions in both technical and HR domains. ~Voice-based Q&A for hands-free learning. ~AI-powered mock interviews with instant feedback. ~Personalized learning paths based on user goals. ~Offline mode for low-connectivity travel zones.
How we built it
~Frontend: Flutter for cross-platform mobile development. ~Backend: Firebase for authentication, cloud storage, and real-time database. ~Voice Features: Integrated text-to-speech and speech recognition for hands-free interaction. ~AI Mock Interviews: Leveraged Kiro's AI capabilities to simulate interview scenarios and provide feedback. ~Storage: SQLite for offline content caching.
Challenges we ran into
Ensuring the app works well even with poor or no internet — handling content caching efficiently. Balancing voice-based features with user privacy and responsiveness.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Received positive early feedback from fellow students who said they'd actually use it on their commute.
What we learned
How to integrate voice recognition and TTS in mobile apps. The importance of offline-first architecture in real-world applications.
