Inspiration/What it Does
According to Pew Research, 62 percent of the world has a phone that is not a smartphone. In emerging economies, this number is even greater, with up to 75% of residents using a phone other than a smartphone. We wanted to create a way for these people to pay each other without cash, so they could experience some of the benefits that cashless transactions have to offer. Transferwise is a way for the rest of the world to pay each other quickly and easily, using existing infrastructure. Transferwise helps people in emerging economies manage their savings and understand their payment history. Transferwise is Venmo, for the rest of the world.
How we built it
Created a Django web app to handle the account registration and transaction logic. Used Twilio to send and receive text messages. Capital one Nessie to create and manage bank accounts. Bluemix to categorize transactions for budget analysis.
Challenges we ran into
Bad internet. Super smash distractions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learned a ton about webhooks, used some fun APIs.
