Inspiration

The inspirations for the creation of this website/app were as follows:

1.) First and foremost - my family and especially my father, Gordon Campbell, who always encourages me to: take any sensible opportunity that presents itself; do the best I can in everything I do; and to "be your own man". I love you all very much!

2.) My friends and especially my Training Buddies team who have helped make my dreams a reality.

3.) My community who have provided me with important insights into the world around me.

4.) Mark Sowerby, Queensland’s first Chief Entrepreneur and founder of Blue Sky Alternative Investments (ASX: BLA) - his life journey, tenacity, and passion helped me decide to go down the entrepreneurial pathway.

What it does

Get together. Encourage your friends. Get fit.

1.) With Training Buddies you can improve your fitness. Not just for a while, but permanently.

2.) It does this by introducing you to other people in your area who want to get fit. You can create training events or join in with other users' events.

3.) You get rewards for training regularly and participating in the community. Users help each other train more regularly and learn to value positive social rewards.

4.) Ultimately, as you get fitter, you can be an inspiration to other users, creating new events that meet the community's needs. The journey you've been on means you're well placed to help new users gain confidence quickly.

How it works

Bringing social media together with the world of health and fitness!

Sign up and enter some of your personal data. This will help us match you up with other users who will be more likely to train well with you.

You’re then presented with a number of ways to interact with the software.

1.) Your Feed lets you know what events are coming up in your area, with an emphasis on events popular with or created by your friends and their friends. Your friends may invite you to join events here, or events may be recommended to you based on your interests and history. You can also filter the feed by various attributes.

2.) Your Activities lists events that you have committed to and those you have attended in the past. Through this portal you can also create events yourself and invite people to them, or make them open to all users based on particular attributes, like gender.

3.) You can see on the front page a list of your rewards and milestones. These are designed to reward you for training regularly and participating in events with other people. The kinds of engagement that are rewarded are:

a.) Being a user for a long period of time, regardless of training b.) Training regularly c.) Training with others d.) Creating events that others join and enjoy e.) Making a turnaround after a difficult history

4.) If you’re regular in your training and are engaged with the community, you will be eligible for sponsored rewards. These are discounts offered by local retailers that offer goods and services useful to your fitness activities.

5.) There is a directory available of personal trainers in the user’s vicinity which can be filtered as you need. These may be most useful to those who have a difficult time getting into regular activity, and the software can suggest these people make use of a personal trainer or a gym to help get started.

We want to show the world that people can gain control of their lives and fitness by encouraging each other. You can be part of our efforts and help countless others to become fitter, happier and more connected members of their community. If you volunteer to help us, your de-identified training data will be used by our partner organisations to produce research that proves the efficacy of Training Buddies. You can also help to improve our system so it better serves your needs.

We’re about a new reward system. Old and addictive behaviours are based on reward systems that are detrimental to your body and mind. Don’t be controlled by food or fear of fitting in. Training Buddies helps to match you with people who are like yourself, who share your desire to live a better, healthier life. Ultimately, your reward will be the knowledge that you have helped your training buddies to gain control over their own lives and become fit and healthy.

Training Buddies is all about power. Your power to change your life. You have this power, though you may not believe it.

Diets haven’t worked, exercise regimes come and go, you’re sick of the cycle. All these things can make you feel like you don’t really have control over your own life. Training Buddies gives you access to tools and a community that will help you to give yourself back that power, and at the same time to give it to countless other people who need to find it again too. Like the moon brought into sharper relief by the hills, or a boat proving its strength against heavy swells, by engaging with the community, you can find the strength inside you.

We believe that positive social reinforcement is the most effective method of changing and maintaining changes in your habits. Your have the power to not only help yourself but to help everybody else like you. And it is by helping others that you discover that power in yourself.

In the next 12 months we will:

Have 4,000 users.

Have 40 personal trainers advertising their services and engaging with the Training Buddies community.

Have at least 24 main sponsors advertising their businesses.

A strong relationship with Menzies Institute for Medical Research and other Australian researchers.
