Inspiration
We wanted to create an interface that incorporated multiple forms of wellness, to cater to as many customers and citizens in the Metro Vancouver area, and promote health in all forms.
What it does
The phone application has many features, including:
- a database of locations for various activities, such as hiking, snowboarding, rock climbing, and trails
- a mindfulness page that provides the user a moment of peace and grounding
- a database of stretches that targets various muscles
- a map function that users can use to find new places
How we built it
- backend: python / Django framework
- frontend: React Native / Javascript
Challenges we ran into
- Learning how to create code for a phone application
- Finding/creating appropriate APIs
- Connecting frontend + backend
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Finally connecting frontend + backend
- Connecting, networking, thinking about our careers, debugging skills, learning phone application creation, version control
What we learned
- persistence and perseverance
What's next for TrailTrek - Mindful Mountain Hackers
- We wanted to implement an algorithm that suggested Arc'teryx clothing based on what activity users choose, but we ran out of time. This function can help cater to current customers, and reach out to new ones.
- We believe that this application has significant potential to give users a unique experience, no matter where they are in their life. So it's only upward from here!
