Inspiration

Onboarding new teammates can feel like a never-ending cycle of Loom videos, outdated docs, and back-and-forth Zoom sessions.

We knew there had to be a better way.

We’re Ryo and Nik—friends and co-founders since our college days. Between 2011 and 2018, we grew TINT (tintup.com) to millions in revenue, thousands of customers, and more than 40 employees. After exiting, we did it again at Topic (usetopic.com), which was acquired in 2021.

Throughout both journeys, the hardest part wasn’t building the product—it was growing a team and getting everyone up to speed. As our headcount doubled, we realized scattered processes and informal training left new hires guessing at critical steps.

Desperate for simple, reliable training docs, we tried every tool on the market — and found them either packed with unnecessary enterprise features or so clunky our teams never used them.

So we made Trails: a simple, polished step-by-step guide builder that helps you create beautiful documentation in minutes.

Trails makes it simple for anyone to build a step-by-step guide. No copying and pasting screenshots - just record your process and out comes a beautiful guide in just 3 simple steps:

1️⃣ Record any process - Click "capture" in the chrome extension and walk through the workflow. When you're finished, Trails generates a beautiful step-by-step guide.

2️⃣ Share anywhere - Add more detail by adding tips and annotating screenshots. Blur sensitive information to keep names, emails, and other data private.

3️⃣ Easily edit - Share with your team or customers via link, embed in your knowledge base, or export to PDF.
