Inspiration
While I was on a Boy Scouts hike, I realized that getting lost could leave you stranded for days with no way to get back to safety by yourself. Realizing that some places had little connectivity, I made a GPS-less tracker that can keep you safe in the wild independently.
What it does
Thousands of people go missing in the woods every year. Trailblazer will help guide you back to safety in such a scenario. Once started, it will track your phone's location using no external factors (such as GPS). This means that Trailblazer has you covered, wherever you go. The map created by the app can help you retrace your steps back to safety.
How I built it
This app was built from scratch using Java in Google's Android Studio.
Challenges we ran into
Displaying and updating the map was the hardest challenge to overcome.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am very proud of the fact that the app that I have created is published and can help the world. It is free to download on any Android device on the Google Play Store.
What I learned
I learned about the Android app-making workflow. My knowledge extended to the front-end as well as back-end as I pieced each part of the puzzle together.
What's next for Trailblazer - GPS-less Tracker
My next project is to refine its accuracy and make an iOS version.
