TrailBlaze

Inspiration

I was inspired by Khan Academy and by seeing the struggles faced by these students, and through research, seeing the insecurity and concern they face in terms of finances and career which inspired me to make something to make their journey easier and to empower them through knowledge to take their fears and turn them into achievement.

What it does

TrailBlaze is designed to aid first-gen, low-income students by providing them with a platform that combines career, financial and life skill training using personalized learning modules, workshops and events with guest speakers and mentors.

How I built it

I focused on the website being as accessible as possible and easy to navigate so that it would be welcoming and easy to find the things that interest the students as well as providing them paths to learn and develop themselves as people, I used Figma to make the mock up and google slides for a couple designs.

Challenges I ran into

Figuring out the costs and finances as well as how to take them down to make it more accessible and free for all students and users, more specifically through the hope of volunteers and others who relate to these situations and donate content and time.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm very proud of how the project turned out overall and how I was able to come up with a comprehensive solution that could solve the main objective that inspired me as well as a mock up that represents what I was thinking more or less accurately.

What I learned

The difficulty of planning and designing an entire larger scale website that incorporates many programs and features and keeping it intuitive. I also learned a lot overall about time and project management and how to approach each sector. This was my first Hackathon and I'm proud of what I learnt and accomplished overall.

What's next for TrailBlaze

Hopefully it'll become a long-term project for me as I learn to code and program and it'll be something I can make reality with the help of others who believe in this initiative.
