Inspiration

Climate change is increasing the frequency of disasters such as landslides, flash floods, and glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in remote mountain communities. Government alerts often don't reach people in time, leaving communities to rely on word of mouth. We wanted to create a trusted platform that enables rapid response through community-driven safety alerts.

What it does

Trail Rush is a community-driven disaster resilience platform that enables people to report and share real-time hazard updates. Anyone can contribute alerts, photos, and observations, while trusted local Community Safety Leaders verify reports before they're widely shared. This helps communities receive timely, reliable safety information when it matters most.

What's next for Trail Rush

Trail Rush will begin with a pilot in one region of northern Pakistan before expanding across the Hindu Kush and Himalayan mountain regions. Through the Trail Rush app, we will build a trusted network of Community Safety Leaders who verify community-reported hazards, creating a scalable, community-driven early warning and rapid response platform that helps vulnerable mountain communities share life-saving information before disasters escalate.
