Inspiration

I love history, especially the parts that ache. Researching American history led me to the Trail of Tears, where policy turned families into travelers of exile. I wanted to make a story-song that feels like a witness: a mother’s hush, winter roads, treaty papers, river crossings. The goal was a film people feel first and then learn from.

What we learned

  • History travels farther through emotion. A simple ballad frame carried complex facts better than exposition.
  • Policy is a character. Removal orders, ledgers, and stamps can be filmed like antagonists.
  • Restraint over spectacle. Non-graphic images, for example an empty cradle, frost breath, river ash, were more powerful than literal re-enactments.

How we built it

Concept & Research: I started by outlining the core arc and visual metaphors, then collected reference boards and historical cues. OpenArt helped me gather visual references and organize moodboards so the look stayed consistent while remaining respectful and original.

Script & Lyrics: I drafted the story beats and initial verses, then brainstormed with GPT to refine language, pacing, and hook placement. We iterated lines to keep them plain, poetic, and fact-anchored, trimming anything that felt decorative or unclear.

Music Composition & Song Generation: For the composition, I prototyped melodies and harmonies in Suno AI to lock tempo, key, and the lament motif. I also explored ElevenLabs Music textures for alternate beds and transitions.

Visual Development (Stills & Look): I designed hero frames and key art with MidJourney, controlling lensing, depth, fabric detail, and period cues. OpenArt moodboards kept palette and costume references aligned.

Video Generation (Shots & Sequences): I produced cinematic sequences with Kling, Veo, and Sora using detailed prompts for lens, motion, lighting, and safe symbolism.

Edit, Grade & Finishing: I cut the film in CapCut, aligning picture beats to breaths and downbeats.

Challenges we ran into

Tone versus truth. Keep images haunting without drifting into graphic depiction. Continuity with AI shots. Prompt locks, lens, palette, time of day, LUTs, and a unifying grain layer.
